Sendero means "path" in Spanish, and the focus is on the path to hard-working farmers in remote coffee growing regions. In 2016, Sendero Specialty Coffee started sustainably sourcing outstanding coffees from relatively unknown and less developed coffee producing countries, such as Uganda. We are paying above Fair Trade prices and working closely with farmers and cooperatives to make sure they are the ones who receive the proceeds in order to improve their livelihoods and farming standards. This incentivises farmers to strive for enhanced quality and re-investment into their local, rural communities. Smallholder farmers’ coffee involves special care and skilled labour, as they hand-pick, select, process and dry coffee in small quantities for specialty grade preparation.
We only source 100% Arabica Coffee, which offers more pronounced cup characteristics and tasting notes (than Robusta variety).
In 2017, we opened our first coffeeshop in South West London, and today, three coffeeshops are caffeinating the neighbourhoods in Clapham, Battersea and Brixton. The ambition is to open more coffee shops in the coming years.
The harmony of the eco-system is of great importance, and when we launched our coffee capsules (Nespresso compatible) the focus was on eco-friendliness. The result is a fully compostable and biodegradable coffee capsule. Consumers enjoy better quality coffee and support the eco-friendly aspect, which made our compostable capsules a big success.
